Archerwill takes its name from three people who sat on the governing council of the Rural Municipality of Barrier Valley in 1924: councillors Archie Campbell and Ervie Hanson, and secretary-treasurer William Pierce. The name is a syllabic abbreviation drawn from their names. The community became a village on January 1, 1947.
